James Hocken joins FIU after serving as a graduate assistant and lead performance analyst with the Florida State women's soccer program from 2018-20.

In his three seasons with the FSU, Hocken helped the Seminoles win an NCAA National Championship in 2018, while claiming two ACC Championships along the way in 2018 and 2020.

During his time working at FSU under Mark Krikorian, Hocken built the analytics department from scratch and trained graduate students, with the purpose of executing advanced analytical processes to aid team development. Hocken was named the Tony DiBenedetto Graduate Student Employee of the Year in April of 2020.

Before joining FSU, Hocken spent 2016-18 at the professional ranks in England's football system. Hocken was an analyst for the men’s U15 program at The Football Association (The FA) in Burton-Upon Trent, England, from July 2017 until July 2018.

Prior to The FA, Hocken worked with Norwich City Football Club (FC) in Norwich, England as an academy match analyst and youth development program scout from July 2016 until May 2018.

Before joining Norwich City FC, Hocken acted as a volunteer analyst with Colchester United FC in Essex, England.

Hocken has worked with some legendary coaches during his career including Kevin Betsy, England U18 Head Coach, and Justin Cochrane, England U17 Head Coach. He was also mentored at Norwich by Phil Church, now Senior Professional Game Coach Development Lead at The FA.

Many of Hocken’s athletes have seen successful professional careers. Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala and Harvey Elliott all earned first team professional contracts, while on the women’s side Jaelin Howell made the US Women’s National Team.

A native of Colchester, England, Hocken earned a bachelor’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Essex in June 2018, before receiving a master’s degree in Sport Management from Florida State University in May of 2020.
